Circus Animals

The circus came to the Patriot Center at GMU. We stopped by on our way home from Easter dinner at the Kiralys and took some pictures of the animals. All these animals were out in the parking lot, just a few feet away from where students park their cars! Its always interesting to park your car before class, and look over to see an tiger watching you!

A pathetic attempt at gardening

Today I attempted to make the front yard look nice. I went to the flower place with my friend Becky (who knows a lot more about plants than I do) and we got some flowers for my yard. All I know about gardening is that you dig holes in the ground, put the plants in, then put the dirt back. This was my plan today, but it turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I have to move approximately 100 metric tons of mulch out of the way to plant these flowers, then there were all these worms that got caught in the crossfire between my mini gardening shovel and the ground. Then, after I finished planting everything, butterflies started attacking me and my plants. I am very afraid of butterflies (have always been, probably always will be). They're like freaky flying flowers- and they can't even get the flying part right because they don't even fly straight. Anyway, I am proud of myself for accomplishing a great gardening feat today.

A partial tour of our home

This is our living room.

Dining Room

Kitchen. The least favorite room of our house. We don't have a pantry!
Here is a picture of Hunny enjoying her new Busy Bunny Basket

This is Sam and Max sitting on our armchair in our living room

This is Max. He is having an identity crisis- he thinks he is a bunny. He likes to sit inside both bunny cages and look at the bunnies on the outside

This is Patch having a shredded carrot feast

Carol asked in a recent comment if our cats get along with our bunnies. The answer is yes, as you can see here.

By the way, these photos are of terrible quality because they are all taken on my camera phone. We have a very old digital camera, but it doesn't work with our Macintosh computers. My phone will transfer pictures via bluetooth.

Polybutylene Pipes

We recently had all of the plumbing in our house replaced. Our house was originally plumbed with polybutylene pipes, which are prone to random leaks. We woke up on the last morning of our 'vacation at home' to find a large water leak over our dining room table. We decided to have the whole system replaced, rather than risk further damage to our house. Apparently this is a very common thing, and many homes that were built in the 70's 80's and early 90's were plumbed with poly pipes. They are a ticking time bomb, and we are glad to be rid of them. We had new CPVC Flowguard pipes put in.
The plumbing guys had to cut holes in our walls to get to our pipes. A drywall crew came in the next day and patched the holes, and a paint crew came in the following Monday to repaint our walls. It went very smoothly and we were quite pleased with the work. The following pictures are of our house during the construction.

Love

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it careful round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket--safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable...The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers of love...is Hell.
- C.S. Lewis, "The Four Loves"
